Artwork Absolument introduced {that a} new exhibition centering on Cuban surrealist painter Jorge Camacho— “Jorge Camacho – Torgia – Alain Gruger: Les Liaisons surréalistes”—will likely be on view at Espace Artwork Absolument from January 18 via April 20, 2024. The gallery is positioned at 11 rue Louise Weiss, 75013 Paris, France.
[According to Paris Diary by Laure, fellow Surrealist artist Alain Gruger is married to Camacho’s widow, Margarita Camacho. Camacho and Gruger, published a book together—Thermodynamique chimique—which is obliquely mentioned in the description below. As Laure points out, “they socialized in the same circles of surrealism around André Breton.”]
Artwork Absolument writes: The work of Jorge Camacho is well-known, specifically for his participation in surrealism – as will once more be demonstrated within the fall of 2024 by his inclusion in an exhibition on the Centre Pompidou for the hundred years of the manifesto written by André Breton, which signaled the delivery of the motion.
The work of Torgia and Alain Gruger are a lot much less recognized, hidden from view by their respective needs, which have happily modified not too long ago. In 1959, Torgia met the younger Cuban artist, who had barely arrived in Paris, and by no means left him once more; and Gruger joined him to type a duo that referred to as to dedicate themselves to the nocturnal artwork of alchemical analysis, the imprint of which might be learn in all of Camacho’s pictorial and graphic developments.
