Anthony Daley is a celebrated British artist whose summary work have been exhibited internationally. He first encountered the work of seventeenth century Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens as a nine-year-old boy dwelling in Jamaica. This was the beginning of a life-long fascination which finds expression in a brand new present in Dulwich Image Gallery. Son of Rubens consists of 12 work by Daley that are all impressed by Venus, Mars and Cupid, painted by Rubens in 1635 and a part of the the gallery’s assortment.
These are extraordinary, large-scale items which pay homage to the unique, not in any apparent visible manner, however fleetingly, through shapes and types and positioning. Venus, Mars and Cupid is painted within the sombre colors of Europe at conflict and utilizing very conventional imagery, expresses the hope that love will overcome conflict and produce peace.
Daley’s work is stuffed with beautiful colors, dancing off the canvases. They’re joyful, dynamic items, with intriguing titles, stuffed with hope and marvel.
