Co-editor Andil Gosine describes problem 110 of Wasafiri (Summer season 2022):
A frank evaluation by Ramabai Espinet (“your query of the afterlife of indentureship is…almost unanswerable right now”), in response to Richard Fung, kicks off the difficulty, in an introduction written with my champion co-editor Nalini Mohabir (Espinet’s and Fung’s stirring dialog follows); an epic new poem by Shani Mootoo powerfully concludes it.
In between are essays by Kevin Jared Hosein, Tzarina Tavielle Prater, Maria del Pilar Kaladeen and Andre Basheir, new works of fiction by Ingrid Persaud and Stephen Narain, poems by Shivanee N. Ramlochan, Faizal Deen, Kaie Kellough, Ann-Margaret Lim, Amílcar Presi Sanatan and Linzey Corridon, an interview by Nalini with former Trinidadian Prime Minister Basdeo Panday, and evaluations by Rajiv Mohabir, Andre Bagoo and Kaneesha Cherelle Parsard, amongst others—all held on this lovely cowl by Kelly Sinnapah Mary (whose “Quarantine” collection is the main focus of my essay). A really particular gathering lengthy within the making, and Nalini and I are so grateful to see it come to fruition.
The dialog will proceed LIVE IN TORONTO on the night of JULY 5 and signed, onerous copies might be accessible, due to One other Story Bookshop, following performances! Particulars might be shared quickly.
