A dialogue that came about on Could 10, 2023—“Race and Puerto Ricans: A Dialog”—remains to be accessible for viewing (recording in Spanish and English with out translation) on Afrolatin@ Discussion board. See hyperlinks beneath. [Many thanks to Peter Jordens for sharing this item.]
A dialog moderated by Dr. Zaire Dinzey-Flores with Dr. Marta Moreno Vega (founding father of Artistic Justice Initiative and co-founder of Corredor Afro), Dr. Mayra Santos-FebresProyect (predominant researcher for the projecto “Diversificación Académica en Afrodescendencia y Racialización de la Universidad de Puerto Rico”), and Nasheli Ortiz González (Government Director of Taller Puertorriqueño), on race and the Puerto Rican id.
Because the Afro-Latino Coalition launched into the latest “LatinoIsNotaRace” marketing campaign, there have been many conversations on how completely different populations recognized their race and ethnicity on the census. This dialog seeks to focus that dialogue on Puerto Ricans, who’re affected by any adjustments on the best way that Race and Ethnicity could be captured on the US Census. The dialog seeks to debate experiences from Puerto Ricans, who’ve lived on the Island and/or the US, and what their learnings inform us about how Puerto Ricans talk about/determine with/perceive Race and what that tells us, if something, about different Latinidades and their understandings of Race.
