Pandemic issues and Windrush scandal amongst shortlist – Repeating Islands

An artist who displays on the challenges of the Covid pandemic and one other who explores the impression of the Windrush scandal are amongst 4 shortlisted for this 12 months’s prestigious Turner prize, with the winner introduced in December.

Alex Farquharson, the director of Tate Britain and the chair of the Turner prize jury, stated it was a “incredible shortlist” for a prize that “provides the general public a snapshot of British creative expertise immediately”.

The jury was impressed with Walker’s use of “portraits of monumental scale to inform tales of a equally monumental nature, whereas sustaining a profound tenderness and intimacy”.
