Earlier this month, Caroline Popovic (La1ère.FranceTV—Martinique) introduced consideration to a younger humpback whale, measuring between 4 and 6 meters, who has been noticed round Schœlcher, Case-Pilote, and in Fort-de-France bay. She writes:
If the humpback calf doesn’t discover its mom rapidly, it would die. Observers in Martinique estimate its size between 4 and 6 meters. It’s subsequently round 3 months previous. Like all humpback calves this age, it will depend on breast milk for his survival.
Usually the newborn whale has to breastfeed for nearly a yr. Its every day consumption could be over 45kgs of breast milk per day. Even after weaning, humpback calves keep near their moms for a number of months. They don’t attain the grownup top of 15m till they’re 10 years previous.
Humpback whales can dwell as much as 40 years. Adults weigh about 40 tons.
The Caribbean a maternity ward for humpback whales
This little misplaced whale was born within the Antilles.
Yearly humpback whales depart the chilly waters of Canada and North America to settle within the area. Many of those cetaceans cease within the Dominican Republic. Others choose to proceed to Grenada.
