A e book about Scottish involvement in slavery has received the highest prize at Scotland’s nationwide e book awards.
David Alston has obtained the Saltire Society Scottish Ebook of the Yr for his Slaves and Highlanders: Silenced Histories of Scotland and the Caribbean. The Cromarty-based historian’s e book explores the position of Highland Scots within the exploitation of enslaved Africans and their descendants in cotton, sugar and occasional plantations of the 18th and nineteenth centuries.
The awards have been held at Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre on Thursday evening.
Novelist and playwright Alexander McCall Smith was offered with the 2022 Saltire Society Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Scottish literature.
