This Sunday, October 9, 2022, at 3:50pm native time (GMT-4), “Guadeloupe la 1ere” tv station will premiere in full the “Homecoming Live performance” of the Caribbean rock band “Grand Baton.” [The concert will be available for replay directly on their website following the broadcast. Grand Baton, based in 2004 in Paris by Guadeloupean JC (Jean-Christophe) Maillard—who later relocated to New York Metropolis—is deeply rooted within the tradition of the Gwoka music [of Guadeloupe] and was developed from a examine of ka drum patterns and a mirrored image on how they may form a brand new rock music, with the intention to observe, in the same means, the cultural course of that formed the Creole language (additionally central to the unique work of Grand Baton).
In 2012, Grand Baton introduced their music again to its roots and to the folks of Guadeloupe. The ultimate present of this tour was filmed and is the testimony of this reunion. Grand Baton is the one true deep experiment unifying a Caribbean drum custom and rock music.
